The Early Beginnings…

In 1940 the Frisbie Pie Company sold pies to neighbouring Yale students. The students threw the pie tins to each other for fun because they actually flew pretty well, jump ahead to 1968 a new game was born, Ultimate. The rest, as they say, is history!

50+ years later it is still one of the most rapidly growing sports played across the globe and as of 2021 has 95 national member federations recognised by the World Flying Disc Federation.

This video is a brief overview of the History of Ultimate across the globe. Thanks, Ultimate HQ for their evolution recap.

The early beginnings of Disc Sports in Australia dated back to the 1970’s, with the Australian Frisbee Association (AFA) formed back in 1976. This was followed by the first national championship hosted in 1978 leading to the first ever Australian National team to play in the 1988 World Championships in Leuven, Belgium.
